OCT 16TH 2014 IS THE DATE FOR THE SHAKEOUT THIS YEAR.

BC’s annual earthquake exercise will be held on October 16th 2014 this year.  The drill will commence at 1016 am.  This is a good time for ARES units to test their plans, let the public know you are around and learn how things may shakeout if an event occurs during the week…. whi will be available etc.  Lets see if we can register more amateurs this year than last year.  For more information go to

Social Media and Crisis

ARES and Emergency Planners should look at the attachment to confirm what we already know, social media will have an impact in times of crisis.  What the attachment shows is just how reliant a large portion of the population is on social media.  One VERY IMPORTANT issue still needs to be addressed; the reliability of the information on social media.   ARES Leadership and Emergency Planners need to address this issue in their planning.  We may not be able to fix, but we NEED to be able to deal with it.
