Social Media and Crisis

ARES and Emergency Planners should look at the attachment to confirm what we already know, social media will have an impact in times of crisis.  What the attachment shows is just how reliant a large portion of the population is on social media.  One VERY IMPORTANT issue still needs to be addressed; the reliability of the information on social media.   ARES Leadership and Emergency Planners need to address this issue in their planning.  We may not be able to fix, but we NEED to be able to deal with it.

THANK YOU VECTOR

The Vancouver Emergency Community Telecommunications Organization ( VECTOR) had over 30 amateurs at work last night (August 2 2014) in downtown Vancouver assisting other emergency services during the third and final night of the Honda Celebration of Lights.  This event goes over a period of three nights and results in over three hundred thousand people in an around English Bay and over a thousand boats anchored to watch the fire works.  VECTOR assists with this and several other events in the City of Vancouver over the course of the year.  Thanks VECTOR for your efforts.
