Local media can be your friend. We often just think about ham radio during crisis, disasters, or other critical events. Sometimes it helps to keep ham radio in the minds of the public during “not so hectic” times. Here is an example of ham radio and the media

Please remember if a tsunami hits the coast the interior ARES folks will be active. We should all be on the same page with terminology
A thank you to all the operators involved in the activation of ham radio voice and digital equipment in 6 Emergency Operation Centres, one fire hall and one reception centre during tonights communication test for mid Vancouver Island. In addition the radio room at Emergency Management British Columbia in Victoria was activated. A very successful exercise and great work by all involved.
The annual earthquake exercise SHAKEOUT will be held on October 15th 2015. This is a great time for ARES units around the Province to use the local media and promote both safety and the role amateur radio plays in a disaster.
