ARES folks this article may help you rationalize why you do what you do. Often heard is the comment ‘why do we do this, we never get called ?’ It looks as though we may get only one chance at this so at least the amateur community should get it right.
BC is very diverse. The coast mainly worries about earthquakes while the interior mainly worries about fire and the east worries about mountain events. Just remember when an event occurs anywhere we are all in this together. Interoperabilty along with a consistent method of operation will be critical.

Jim Dean, VE3IQ passes on… a pillar of the Radio Amateurs of Canada has left this earth.
As many of you know, Jim Dean, VE3IQ has been a pillar of RAC for many years and his counsel was sought by a great many in the amateur community both nationally and internationally. Among his many roles he served internationally as our man in Geneva for WRC conferences, domestically as a Canadian Amateur Radio Advisory Board (CARAB) liaison and an advisor to many RAC Presidents including myself. The weekly HF net conducted by Emergency Management British Columbia will resume after a holiday break. The net will resume this Wednesday January 7th 2015 on 3.735 Mhz at 1900 hrs. Various VHF regional nets will also resume this week.

RAC has voted “aye” to having both Shoqata e Radio Amatoreve te Kosoves (SHRAK) headquartered in Pristine, Republic of Kosovo and Rwanda Amateur Radio Union (RARU) headquartered in Kimironko, Gasabo District, Kigali City, Rwanda join the IARU as member societies
These Societies have applied to and been found to satisfy the requirements of the Constitution and Bylaws of the IARU by the Region 1 Executive Committee. Region 1 has made favourable findings with regards to the applications.
All national societies (worldwide) need to vote on whether new societies can join the IARU. Voting closes January 5th 2015.

Cowichan Search and rescue team was delayed in their response to a man stranded in a river when they realized the fuel had been siphoned from the response truck.
