The ARRL  reports that the US Army has reversed it decision to discontinue the use of Winlink 2000 in its MARS program. For full details go to the url   http://www.arrl.org/news/army-mars-resumes-use-of-winlink-2000.

The decision to discontinue the use of Winlink caused concern within the MARS,CFARS and ARES communities. This decision will allow services to be provided in a timely and efficient manner for all involved,.

Living on the West Coast earthquakes and a tsunami are real concerns. Emergency Management British Columbia has published a manual that will assist you in getting prepared.  As part of the emergency response it is even more important that ARES operators are properly prepared. Remember ARES is part of the solution, not part of the problem.  For a look at the manual please view the website noted below.

There is going to be a Dxpedition to Pitcairn Island (OC-044, CQ Zone 32) between January 20th and February 4th, 2012. The operator lineup is made of Jacques F6BEE, Gilles VE2TZT, Nigel G3TXF, Michel FM5CD and Vincent F4BKV

They will be on all bands 160-10 metres including the WARC bands during their stay.

They will try and upload the VP6T log to LoTW during the operation if they can. if not, they will upload the logs after their arrival home. They will try to update their VP6T log on “ClubLog” as often as they can during the operation.

It’s Christmas time already !

I would like to thank each of you for your support and efforts over the past year. Thanks also to those family members who have supported you and the program over the past year. 2011 has been a very busy and interesting year, and while I haven’t completed the year end statistics they are looking very good. I will have them done by the January meeting.

A special thanks to those on the current executive and those who helped form the society. There was a lot of work and many hours put in behind the scenes.

I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday season.

The great province of Saskatchewan is missing from the RAC Winter Day
contest! Traditionally VE5RAC is on the air twice a year for both the Canada Day and Winter Day Contest but is absent this weekend. Unless you VE5s can help.

Is there an HF qualified, RAC member out there that would like the fun of being VE5RAC? International contacts [outside Canada] are worth 2 points, Canadian contacts are worth 10 points and an official RAC station [VE5RAC] is worth 20 points! You will be on the right side of the pile-up!

You can have one or there can be many operators. The rules are available at the RAC website: www.rac.ca .
